Dela Cruz. You are all in for a treat when
you play this level. Another first map for an
author...but don't let that fool you!!! This
map absolutely ROCKS!!! The architecture was
superb as well as the monster placement. Just
when you think you are at the end of this
level...you are not even close as you will
all find out! The ending is ALL about dying.
Hope you can make it through this fine KILLER
MAP.

Quake SP Level: Break-In by Chris Spain. This
level starts you off in a sinking boat, and
you have to fight your way out past the
guard. The level's layout and design show
attention to theme, and some of the detailing
has been done well.

Quake SPQ Level: Countdown by Chris Spain.
This level begins where the previous Badlands
level leaves off. You've infiltrated the
enemy's island base, and now you're going to
see what's going on. This level is done in an
"outdoor military base" theme, and it's been
done very well architecturally. This level
has a definite plot (wait until you see the
missile loading; way cool.)

Quake SP Level: MBB7 and The Bastardry by
Ace. This 2 level episode is so over_the_top
it's untrue! You start with Missile Bunker
Bravo 7 and within the first few seconds
you've forced very close friendships with
about 20 grunts and enforcers :) After
battling through missile tubes and tunnels,
you reach your ship that takes you to The
Bastardry! This map has one of the best
effects ever made - the main level building
rises from underwater! -

Quake SP Episode: Beyond Belief Part 1 - The
Unholy Alliance by Matthias Worch. 8 brand
new maps, plus start and secret maps. All of
them are sure worth your attention. The
quality of these levels is sometimes even
better than the original Quake. Also full
support for DM and Co-Op!

Quake SP Level: Beyond Belief by Matthias
Worch This level is a 1 level preview of a
new 9 level episode by Matthias Worch. The
level is a joy to play and is meticulously
built, staying close to the id style, but
very compact, claustrophobic and exciting to
play. Switches lead to dungeons, which lead
to sewers, which open passageways - you know
the drill but never as expertly executed as

Quake level: Basic Castle Huge Level made to
sort of resemble a castle 1p coop dm

Quake SPQ Level: B.C. Dwellings by The
Partisan. This level is a dungeon-crawl of
sorts. The majority of the architecture is of
the "natural cavern" variety, and has been
done convincingly. There are numerous wooden
structures (platforms and walkways and the
like) and they fit into the theme of this
level perfectly.

Quake SPQ Level: Blister by Tony Boyer. This
level begins with you in a small room, with
the super nailgun and a box of nails close to
hand. The action takes place around one main
room; stairways in the corners allow you to
progress around each side of this open area.
The monster mix is a bit eclectic (doesn't
really follow a theme) and somewhat light (24
on Hard) but the pacing is good and the
combat situations interesting.

Quake SPQ Level: Blister 2 by Tony Boyer.
This level is a lot larger than the previous
one, and the lighting has been done a lot
better -- there are pools of shadow and
plenty of "mood lighting" throughout. Some
new textures have been used (the author notes
their origin in the .txt file) and they've
been used intelligently and effectively.

"Temple of Black Moon 02/12/97 The officialClan of Black Moon- Quake clan DeathMatch Map by CryptR. Very well designed Quake Deathmatch map including awesome architecture with some new wall textures. ToBM has very much those professional level design skills used. Very compelling in 2-16 (or up to 32 ;) player Deathmatch. Medieval red Temple-like theme level."

Quake SPQ Level: Bridges & Towers by Jim
Hendrickson. This level has been done most
excellently in the "metal" theme. The play
areas cover a wide range of sizes, from
cramped hallways to large, airy multi-level
rooms that run extremely smoothly despite
their size and complexity. They have been
designed to allow the monsters (placed
intelligently) their maximum field of
effectiveness.

Quake SPQ Level: The Hallowed Halls by Jim
Hendrickson. The Hallowed Halls is a proto-
metal map in the same style as Jim's previous
map, Bridges and Towers. The same build
quality is evident throughout the map, but
the main thing that strikes you is how non-
linear the map is - it's possible to wander
around this relatively small map for ages
until you work out where you're going! Not
many monsters here but when the battles come
they are brutal.

Quake SPQ Level: Dextromethorphan by Zied
Rieke. The military base style setting of
this map has a lot good of details and the
game flow is great. For a first level, the
author has done a terriffic job of
presentation with a good theme! His attention
to detail was supurb as well as his placement
of foes.

Quake SP Level: Earthbound by Geoff Barry.
This is an "underground tomb", with many
great places to visit. There are lots of
monsters, and it's just good for this level.

Quake SPQ Level: Empedokles domain by J.F.
Gustafsson. A really fun medieviel style
level that entertains for a couple of hours.
This map has really smooth game flow. The
authors monster placement was superb making
the player beware of every corner. There were
even plenty of secrets for the more
adventurous players to find.

Quake SPQ Level: The Elektra Complex by
Andrew Smith. TEC is not (as the name might
suggest) a base level - it's medieval
hellhole of a level that demonstrates
Andrew's art of superlative gameplay. Detail
is minimal in this level but the well crafted
architecture means it's not missed. Corridors
and walkways wind around each other from
above and below, meaning that you're always
in danger of attack from all angles.

Quake SPQ Level: End of Time by Marty. This
is another great level from Marty. End of
time was designed for an interview with
3DRealms and proves to be a fine example of
what Marty can really do. You will really
enjoy this base style map as it is one of the
finest examples I have seen. The architecture
is stunning and will make you want to come
back later just to look around.

Quake SP Level: The Epoch Turning by Andrew
Smith. Andrew has mastered the art of
atmosphere in his maps and The Epoch Turning
is no exception - this is a very large, very
tough and very creepy level that has danger
around every corner. Easy skill is just that,
but the jump to Normal moves from 43 to 101
monsters! Andrew also manages to create
fabulous, immersive architecture that does
not slow down the map one iota - wish I could
do that :) The map takes you through a

Quake SP Level: Horror Erotique by Marty. A
compact but deadly level based on the 'metal'
theme, Horror Erotique is one of the most
well built maps I've come across lately. All
the textures fit the theme perfectly and the
map manages to look interesting and detailed
without any slowdown. Gameplay is tough but
fair and the map has a real flavour of id's
own 'metal' maps. I loved the way the
sections weaved into one another - obviously
a lot of planning went into this map and it

Quake SP Level: E.T.'s World by Etienne
Rheaume. This level starts with the player in
water. GREAT use of messages throughout the
level. The secrets are little more than
slightly-hidden traps, but they always
contain valuable items. Some very interesting
architecture in this one - the outside 'fire
escape' type stairs were wonderfully
executed.

Quake SP Level: EvilWorld 1 by Matt Sefton.
EvilWorld 1 is Matt's first SP map and it has
been well received out there in Quakeland.
Created with Thred, it features some big room
spaces which slows the map down a little, but
doesn't spoil the party. DM

Quake SPQ Level: Ghost Town by Roger Staines.
This fine Killer Map is in a ghost town
setting. The architecture is outstanding as
the author has put a lot of unique details in
this thrilling map making the player feel
that he is in a real ghost town :) He has
added a different twist to the skill levels.
On easy there are 101 grunts and enforcers
that will be waiting for you and the only
weapon you will get is the shotgun making it
quite a shot out! In normal skill there are

Quake SP Level: The Gib Factory by Scope.
Wow! That's the best word to describe The Gib
Factory by Scope. It would be a fantastic
level *without* 2 new weapons (Airfist and
Plasma Gun), 4 new monsters (Blarg, Drone,
Manga Babe and an old friend :), new grunt
skins and a plethora of excellent new
textures on stunning architecture. This is
the first level where all the additional
patches *work* to really enhance the level.
Learn the Airfist well - you'll need it!

Quake SPQ Level: God's House by Jussi
Tuononen. This level is some sort of
cathedral-like place (big hallways, vaulted
ceilings, lots of pillars) and is the most
brutal and (surprisingly) balanced level. The
architecture is wonderful, with plenty of
large areas to give you running and fighting
room. The author has placed a number of
"detailing" structures in this level as well,
which do tend to get in the way at times.

Quake SPQ Level: Gods of Rapture by Jim
Hughes. This level has been done in the
medieval style. The architecture is
functional without being overly flashy or
over-decorated. The author has used enough
structural detail to make this level
convincing, but it doesn't slow appreciably
in any area or from any angle.

Quake SPQ Level: Gordian's Brick by O.
Marlowe. This is the first time this author
has released a Quake level and it is very
impressive. This base style map opens in a
wonderfully detailed shipping yard. The best
shipping yard and office setting ever seen in
a map. The attention to detail will have you
looking around a lot. From little chairs to
realistic bathrooms complete with the proper
tiles.

Quake SP Level: Rust In Peace (beta) by Mike
Ruete ("Gripp"). The architecture in this
level is extremely well done, from the wall
ornamentation (struts and lighting fixtures)
in most areas to the overall detail and
structures throughout -- the water area with
the steps rising out of it (by the grunts and
the green armor on the walkway) was one of
the most realistic water areas yet seen.

Quake SP Level: The Guardhouse by Andrew
Smith. The second level of a new Episode, The
Epoch Turning, The Guardhouse by Andrew Smith
is a beautifully constructed level with lots
of architectural detail coupled with great
playability. The best SP level for Reaper
Bots. Very highly recommended! DM/SK/CO

Oliver. Don't you think that everyone in
Quakeland takes themselves just a *leetle*
too seriously? Download this hilarious
package and die laughing :) Fantastic
graphics, skins and sounds and a level layout

Quake SPQ Level: Ephermerality by Malcolm
Sailor. This level has been very well done in
the "metal" theme. The architecture is
spacious in most places, but you find that it
feels pretty cramped once the monsters start
shooting at you. Obvious attention has been
paid to lighting and texturing as well. The
monster mix is fierce, and on the tough side,
but you'll be able to survive with the
weapons and ammo given to you.

Quake SP Level: Suicide Staccato by Marcus
Dromowicz. Suicide Staccato (mexx6) is a
vast, sprawling military base with some nice
architecture and a large quantity of enemies,
most of which seem to teleport up behind you
:) The final room is a real bloodbath - make
sure you find that nailgun! DM/SK/CO

Quake SP Level: A Bishop's Bane by Marcus
Dromowicz. The latest in the Mexx series, A
Bishop's Bane is a very large, maze-like map
in the style of e1m5 Gloom Keep and is a lot
of fun to play. There's plenty of meat to
kill and the gameplay is very well structured
with a nice flow to the map. DM/SK/CO

Quake SP Levels: Prelude to Apocalypse and
Mordrigor's Demise by Marcus Dromowicz. Like
his previous works, these levels are
extremely well-done architecturally. Both
levels have a clear linearity, with enough
in-between action and movement to keep you
exploring.

Quake SPQ Levels: Penumbra of Domination by
Marcus Dromowicz. You need v1.08 or v1.09 of
Quake to play these levels. This enormous
.pak file contains five levels and a
significant amount of QuakeC. All of the
levels demonstrate the author's proficiency
with large, playable areas, and each has
plenty of running and shooting room. This
works both ways, though, and the monster
placements are both tough and plentiful.

Quake SP Level: Mines & Mayhem by Ed Cope.
The attention to detail and theme in this
surprisingly-small level is exquisite. The
level is somewhat underpopulated, though the
addition of the "Bazooka Babe" (in a small
cameo) makes it more of a fight than it would
otherwise have been.

Quake SP Level: Mini by Denis Moeller. True
to it's name, this level is small. What it
may lack in size, it more than makes up for
in architectural detailing and small-scale
but intense gameplay.

Quake SP Level: Monastery by Neil Manke.
Starts off with you locked in a cell; all you
have to do is kill the guard to escape. This
level shows most excellent attention to theme
and detail -- for all intents and purposes,
this is a monastery, complete with dormitory,
bell tower (very well done), and kitchen.

Quake SPQ Level: Morbidity: 1 by Daniel Vogt.
This level makes extensive use of converted
Doom2 textures, and it appears that some
portions of this level were modeled after
map02. There, however, the similarity ends.
This level has been done in the base theme,
for the most part (there are some stone
areas), and the architecture varies from
tight, cramped areas to medium-sized arenas.
Combat is fast and furious, and the monsters

Quake SP Level: Office of the Dead by
Obi-Wan. Office leads you from an underground
military base across a rickety rope bridge
into a medieval castle dungeon. As usual, the
architecture and gameplay are superb and this
level sounds great with Scourge of Armagon CD
track 3 :) One criticism - the map slows down
a lot and you MUST use the -winmem 16 switch
at the command line. DM/SK

Quake SPQ Level: Blood of the Martyrs by Obi-
Wan. A new military base level by Obi-Wan,
Blood of the Martys is a extremely well built
level that's great fun to play. Especially
you will like the start area that begins with
one of Obi's trademark outdoor areas leading
into 2 separate military complexes carved
into the rock faces. The level is not too
challenging and is a little dark but runs
fast and should be a blast in deathmatch or
with reapers.

Quake SP Level: Offspring by Chris Williams.
Note: you must have the Scourge of Armagon
add-on pack to play this level! It starts off
quietly enough, and you're given the super
shotgun and a couple of boxes of shells at
the very beginning. The combat is challenging
and somewhat teeth-gritting throughout. Flow
is linear, and the pacing has been done well.

Quake SPQ Level: Operation Condor by Scott
McNutt. "Can you survive the Hall of
Crushers? Can you squeeze your way through
the Arrows of Death? And manage to stay out
of the way the Cleaners? If you are up for
the further adventures, Operation Condor will
test your skills to the limit". Operation
Condor is a tremendous (and huge) runic map
that will see you dying by the dozen :) This
map has the best use of func_trains of any
level I've yet seen. Scott has devised some

Quake SP Level: The Insurrection, part II by
Chris Mayers. Functional, yet elegant,
architecture, a central room that slows the
game at times, some spectacular areas, and
some absolutely fantastic combat are the
characteristics that this level shares with
it's predecessor. The lighting is again
superb.

Quake SPQ Level: Orion by Jason Fink. You
will be challenged from the very beginning in
this medieval styled level with a mixed bag
of monsters in it. The architecture is quite
pleasing and the game flowed well. You'll
like what the author did with the monster
placement that helped to make this map a
pretty good challenge in hard skill. You will
have to watch your ammo as the inventory is
pretty slim.

Quake SPQ Level: Out of Time by J.F.
Gustafsson. The way the author blends two
styles of levels, medieval and base, very
nicely and impressively. The author has
included a good story line that will help you
with the adjustment of this transition. The
game flow was great as was the monster
placement making this a very challenging and
fun level to play. Some of the architecture
was most excellent.

Quake SPQ Level: The Keldjoran Outpost by
Benson "El-Magoo" Russell. This level has
been done extremely well in the medieval
style. Architecture, structuring, and
texturing have been done consistently and
believeably throughout. Playing spaces range
from fairly narrow corridors and rooms to
somewhat large open areas. There is some
slowing in places, however, probably owing to
the complexity of some of the areas.

Quake SPQ Levels: Over Ridden by Travis
Almand. These two maps are set in a small
power station and in a warehouse that has
been rebuilt many times in its life. There
are a lot of surprises in store for you in
these two levels. The architecture is
fantastic in these maps. The author also did
a great job of changing the monsters so they
will have the same weapons that you do and
each one has a different skin for its
abilities.

Quake SP Level: Darkness Diabolical by Wright
Bagwell. Some really great lighting sets this
map apart from the plethora of medieval
levels out there. Darkness... is a well
designed and relatively large map with great
architecture and interesting battle areas. I
particularly liked the sewer section with its
wooden gantrys. Sizeable but not sprawling,
this is another map to add to the growing
list of great new releases. DM/SK/CO

Quake SP Level: The Soul Grinder by Wright
Bagwell. This is the second medieval-style
map from Wright Bagwell and it's a killer.
This is a very large map that combines some
great combat areas with nice architecture and
detail, never sacrificing frame rate. This is
fun all the way and comes very highly

Hryniewiecki. Place of Belonging shows how
far Quake editing has progressed in such a
short time. This level would not look out of
place in the id original and has all the
elements that make up a fantastic map -

sprawling, which is a good thing due to the
monsters chosen and placed.

utilizing Quake's ability to use floors above

Quake SPQ Level: Teleportation Central by
Stuart Maine. This fierce combat level takes
a long time to complete the first time. The
level is all about teleporters as the name
implies. The monster placement was pretty
thin at first but once you get started you
will be very happy with the many combat
situations the author offers.

Quake SP Levels: Spawn City & Water World by
T. H. Johansen. Good levels and they include
three of the new monsters that have been
created for Quake -- the Manga Babe,
Snakeman, and Willy the Spider.

Quake SPQ Levels: TEF Double Pack #2 by T. H.
Johansen (TJ). Two great Killer Maps in one!
These medieval style maps were as pleasing to
see as they were to play. The author uses
many different entities that will probably
surprise just about anyone! The game flow of

"Backspace" Persson. This level is non-stop
action from beginning to end. The good thing
is all of the other aspects of level design -
architecture, flow, pacing, lighting, monster
and item placement, and texture selection --
have not been overlooked; this level looks as
good as it plays, and it runs extremely
smoothly throughout.

Quake SPQ Level: The Fierce Livid by Anders
"Backspace" Persson. Here is a plain but
deadly map that you will really enjoy. The
map is a rather large metal map that really
rocks in hard mode! The author makes great
use of air tunnels and has made a large map
that doesn't slow down. The game flow was
excellent as was the placement of foes.

to keep you wits about you, or you'll be
toast (or hog).

where and when he will expand his Empire.
