WinPatrol tarkkailee Windows-järjestelmän avainpaikkoja, joihin omin lupineen sisään lampsivat virukset, madot, troijalaiset, vakoilijat ja muut vihulaiset yleensä asentuvat. Se varoittaa mikäli esimerkiksi palveluiden, prosessien tai Windowsin mukana käynnistyvien ohjelmien listaan liittyy uusia jäseniä, ja kysyy käyttäjältä onko niillä lupaa asentaa itseään koneelle.
