Idiot's Delight Solitaire for Windows
-------------------------------------

Description:

Idiot's Delight is a standard solitaire, described in most solitaire
references. Its more proper name is "Aces Up", but it's also known
as "Aces High", "Four Aces", "Firing Squad", and "Drivel".

In its native form, Idiot's Delight is a very difficult, some would
say maddening, game. Your chances of winning are not too high, maybe
1 in 20 on the average.

With this version of the game, I've introduced a number of alternate
rules (OK, they're really cheats, but I won't tell if you won't) that
improve the odds considerably. With skill, strategy, and a smattering
of luck, you'll win half your hands.

In addition to the cheats (er, alternate rules), this game boasts a
number of features that make for a great little game of solitaire:

Selectable difficulty levels (easiest, easy, hard, and hardest)
Ten levels of undo, so if you make a little goof, you've a chance
to turn back the clock and make amends
Hands can be selected at random, or by number (999999 different
   deals are possible)
If you're interrupted while playing a hand, you can save it to disk,
and restore it later, picking up where you left off
Full statistics, including games played, games won, winning percentage,
   and average score
You may select from six available card back designs
The color of the game screen background is adjustable
"Move Alert" lets you know if there are any more plays to be made
A toolbar puts the most-used functions in easy reach
Multimedia sound, including WAV sound effects and MIDI music
  A context-sensitive help system
  Great graphics

Requirements:

Idiot's Delight requires Windows 3.1 or later and a mouse. The game
will run from a floppy disk, but a hard drive is recommended. If you
want to hear the sound effects and background music, you'll need a
sound card. Idiot's Delight requires VBRUN300.DLL, which may or
may not be distributed with the program. If not, it is available from
most BBS's, CD-ROMs, and FTP sites, as well as from Microsoft, and from
the author's web site at "http://www.solitairecentral.com".

Installation:

Extract the program files from the distribution archive and put them
into a temporary directory on your hard disk.

If you wish to use the automated installation utility (recommended), run
SETUP.EXE, either from the Program Manager "File/Run" menu (in Windows
3.x), the Start button's "Run" command (in Windows 95), or from the Win95
command line. The setup program will prompt you to select a destination
directory, then copy the files and add an Idiot's Delight group to
Program Manager or the Start button.

If you wish to install the program manually, simply create a directory
for the program (C:\IDIOT is suggested) and copy the programs into
that directory. Add IDIOT.EXE into Program Manager or the Win95 Start
button, or run it directly from File Manager or the Win95 Explorer.

VBRUN300.DLL may be installed in either the Idiot's Delight directory or in
the Windows system directory (the latter is recommended).

If you decide to delete Idiot's Delight, you may remove it from your
computer by simply erasing the files from its directory, and removing
its group from the Program Manager or Start button.

Getting Started:

The help file (IDIOT.HLP) contains the primary documentation for the
program, including rules of the game, background information, information
on the various options and features, and a revision history.
