          ISOLAN OS/2 ODI WORKSTATION DRIVER ISOLAN.SYS v2.02
          ===================================================

                               ------------
                               INTRODUCTION
                               ------------

  This document should be used as a supplement to the Novell NetWare
  manuals and, where necessary, you will be prompted to refer to the
  appropriate section of the NetWare documentation.

  Please note that in the Novell documentation, the ISOLAN Controller
  Card is referred to as the `Network Communication Board' or `Network
  Interface Card'.

  Note
  The NetWare OS/2 Requester can only be installed with either the AT
  Controller Cards or the MCA Controller Card.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

  Before you start installation, we recommend that you make working
  copies of the NetWare master diskettes. Use the DOS or OS/2
  `diskcopy' command as described in your DOS or OS/2 Reference Manual.
  Store the master diskettes in a safe place and use your working
  copy for the installation.
  All further references to the NetWare Diskettes will assume that
  your working copies are being used.

THE CONTROLLER CARDS

  Make sure you have carried out the following actions before you
  commence the NetWare installation; they apply to installations
  with all types of ISOLAN Controller Cards.
     Ensure that there are no Interrupt, Address or DMA conflicts
      with other devices in the computer in which the Controller
      Card is to be installed. Refer to the Installation Manual
      that is packaged with your Controller Card.
     Check all cabling after hardware installation.

NETWARE SERVERS AND WORKSTATIONS

  Each file server (or workstation) can be configured to run in at
  least one of three different protocol modes as follows:
   Ethernet_802.2 (also known as ISO Mode)
   Ethernet_802.3  (Non-ISO Mode)
   Ethernet_II     (Blue Book Mode)
  These configurations can be selected at installation. In addition
  NetWare 386 servers, DOS ODI workstations and OS/2 Requester stations
  can be configured during installation to operate in Ethernet_SNAP
  mode.
  During NetWare installation and configuration you must ensure that
  the fileserver and all workstations are set in the same mode (ISO,
  non-ISO, Blue Book or SNAP).

INSTALLATION STRATEGY

    We recommend that you configure the fileserver and one
     workstation and make sure that they interwork before configuring
     the remainder of the workstations.

    We suggest that wherever possible, to save time and effort, you
     set the configuration parameters of Controller Cards of the same
     type to identical values. This will have the advantage of making
     your network easier to support. Generally each machine will then
     have identical hardware and software network configurations.
     Generate and install one type of shell before generating a
     different shell for another type of Controller Card to minimise
     the possibility of errors.

    If you are using an ISOLAN AT or MCA Controller Card you do not
     generally need to worry about the card's settings as all NetWare
     drivers feature auto-detection of hardware settings.

                     -----------------------------
                     INSTALLING THE OS/2 REQUESTER
                     -----------------------------

INTRODUCTION

This part of the manual assumes that you have a working knowledge of
OS/2. When installed on an OS/2 workstation, OS/2 Requester allows the
user to access OS/2 applications and files on NetWare servers on your
network.

The servers may also be used to store DOS based applications but must
be running NetWare v2.1 or above. You must also ensure that NetWare
Utilities for OS/2 are installed on the server accessed by your OS/2
workstation.

Your workstation must have an ISOLAN Controller Card installed and be
running OS/2 version 1.1 or higher (either Standard or Extended
Edition) for this version of OS/2 Requester.

This part of the manual should be read in conjunction with the
Installation chapter of the Novell NetWare Requester for OS/2
Supplement.

Note

     1) Multi-Protocol Support (MPS) does not run on OS/2
     workstations. Therefore there is no support for MPS applications.
     The Novell ODI specification, to which this driver is written,
     does, however, provide support for multiple protocols running over
     one physical card.

     2) This version of the ISOLAN OS/2 ODI driver works with OS/2
     version 2.00 as well as OS/2 version 1.x.

     3) The range of products other than NetWare which can run over
     ODI drivers is expanding all the time. For example it is possible
     to run NDIS-compatible network software over ODI using Novell's
     ODINSUP utility. Please refer to each individual product's own
     documentation for further information.

INSTALLING AN OS/2 ODI WORKSTATION

1. Commence the installation as described in the Novell NetWare
     Requester for OS/2 Supplement.

2. In the section `Install the NetWare Requester' follow the
     installation instructions up to the point where you are requested
     to copy the CONFIG.PST file into the CONFIG.SYS file. Ignore the
     instruction where you are requested to remove the "rem" from the
     beginning of the line that lists the interface board installed in
     your station. Now, modify the CONFIG.SYS file by adding the
     following line.

          DEVICE=C:\directory\ISOLAN.SYS

     where directory is the full path name of the directory in which
     you chose to store the device drivers.

3. Copy the files ISOLAN.SYS and MSM.MSG from the subdirectory \NWOS2
     on your ISOLAN Drivers Disk to the directory in which you chose to
     store device drivers.

4. Continue the installation from Step 7 and save the CONFIG.SYS file
     as directed.

5. Copy the file NET.CFG from your ISOLAN Drivers Disk to your
     workstation's root directory.

6. You must configure OS/2 Requester to operate using the same
     Ethernet protocol as the server to which it will attach. You may
     operate in ISO mode (802.2), non-ISO mode (802.3), Blue Book mode
     (Ethernet version II) or SNAP mode. To do this you must edit the
     NET.CFG file by inserting one of the following lines underneath
     the line that specifies the driver (ISOLAN.SYS).

     For ISO mode, type:

          Frame=ethernet_802.2

     For non-ISO mode, type:

          Frame=ethernet_802.3

     For Blue Book mode, type:

          Frame=ethernet_II

     For SNAP, type:

          Frame=ethernet_SNAP

     If you do not insert this line in the NET.CFG file the OS/2
     Requester will default to non-ISO (802.3) mode for the IPX
     protocol. Other protocols or products may require more than one
     frame type to be defined. Please refer to any additional
     documentation for these products.

     The OS/2 driver will normally detect the hardware settings for the
     installed card automatically. If, however, you have difficulty
     with this, you may enter card configuration details into the
     NET.CFG file.

     On an ISA or EISA bus machine (AT Controller), enter the
     following:

          port=ppp
          int=i
          dma=d

     Where ppp is the I/O port address (default 280 hex), i is the card
     interrupt level (default 10 decimal) and d is the card DMA channel
     (default 0).

     On a MicroChannel architecture machine (MCA Controller), enter the
     following:

          slot=s

     Where s is the MicroChannel slot where the ISOLAN card is
     installed.

     For further details about the options available in the NET.CFG
     file, refer to the Novell NetWare Requester for OS/2 Supplement.

7. Ensure that your server is correctly configured for OS/2 and that
     you have run the NetWare SERVINST utility.

Your workstation is now set-up with the software that you have
configured. You will need to reboot the workstation to load OS/2
Requester.

     Note: during the installation of the Novell Beta Requester for
     OS/2 v2.00, you may choose to enter the name ISOLAN.SYS when
     prompted for the Network Interface Card driver name. If you do
     this you will be prompted for the path of the Third Party NIC
     driver which for this field trial release is A:\ISOLAN.SYS. Insert
     the field trial release diskette before hitting the OK button. The
     NET.CFG file can also be changed from within the
     installation/configuration utility and on-line help is provided.
