Description:

Note: This game will detect the current screen resolution and
make the necessary adjustments automatically for 1024x768,
800x600 and 640x480 resolutions. If any other resolution is
detected you are given the option of running either one or quit
the game. In this case, I suggest to use the closest resolution
to the one you are using. The pictures and buttons will not be
the same widths, but the game should still be playable.

Card matching game for kids ages 3 and up. 32 cards are
arranged in an 8x4 pattern, find all the matching cards by
clicking on the buttons below the pictures. If the game is
run under Warp 4.0 with Speech Recognition enabled, you can
play the game using Speech Navigation. Simply say the numbers
1 thru 32 and the pictures will appear. Includes counter for
number of tries. Five different card backgrounds included.

How to play:

When the program is first started, the screen displays 32 cards
arranged in a 4 by 8 pattern. Click on any of the buttons below the
pictures to turn the cards over. Open another card. If the cards
don't match, both cards automatically close after a default
1.1 seconds.
If the cards match, then the buttons below the pictures are
disabled and the pictures remain displayed until a new game is
played. A counter keeps track of how many times the buttons are
pressed. Note: For open cards that have a match, the counter does
not increment when the corresponding button is pressed. If you get
a count between 32 and 64 then consider yourself a Master.

If you play this game under Warp 4.0 with speech enabled, then
simply say the numbers 1 through 32 (or A-Z, 1-6) as they appear
on the buttons below the picture. The buttons were placed there
to identify the pictures specifically for speech navigation.
All menu commands are also automatically speech enabled, so you
can change the card background simply by saying "Game" "Options"
"two" for example.

If you let your kids play using speech navigation, then I recommend
two things: Keep only one kid in the room with the computer (it is
so hard for the kid who has to wait to stay quiet) and enroll each
kid with an individual profile (approx. 6 years or older). My 4 year
old son tested this game with my speech profile and mostly it
worked, but numbers like "13" and "30" did get misinterpreted. My
6 year old daughter had less of a success using my profile, must be
the female voice! If you play with the letters A-Z to open the cards,
then you must teach the system fully for best results or many of
the letters will get missinterpreted.

This game gives you a great opportunity to spend
some time with your kids and teach them to read and run a
computer at the same time!

Menu Description:

GAME - Options:
Allows to change the game's options. Choose to open the cards
using numbers (1-32) or letters (A-Z, 1-6). Note: if you use
voice navigation, you can change this option by saying "UP" or
"DOWN"; however, the option does not actually get saved. If you
use the mouse to change this option, then it gets saved properly.

Change the time unmatched cards stay open. Allowed values are
0.1 to 15 seconds.

Select from five different card themes: Dinos, birds, wild animals,
farm animals or fish. Click on the picture to select. If you change
card themes during a game in progress, you will be asked if you want
to restart the game or return to the current game and card theme.

Select from five different patterns by clicking on the picture or
saying one of the numbers that appears below the sample background
if using speech navigation. You can change the background any time
without affecting a game in progress.

You can change any of the above listed options without affecting the
game. When you click on the OK button, then the changes will take
effect.

GAME - Players

Allows to enter the names of two players. Name is limited to
12 characters. Note: Actual names cannot be entered using voice,
however navigating is possible.

GAME - View Scores

Allows to view the ten best scores and corresponding names. The score
is updated everytime a game is completed. If no name has been entered
then only the score is shown. If Hints or Auto-Play had been selected
during the game, then the score will not be added to the list. This
list is kept in the file MEMORY2.SCR and it is encrypted to prevent
cheating.

GAME - Hints (toggle on-off)

Click on Hints during a game and after a short delay, two
buttons will change color to white to indicate matching cards. The
buttons will stay white for two seconds before another hint is given.
Hints will turn off for the following events: click on GAME-Hints,
open two matching cards, click on GAME-AutoPlay or click on GAME-New.

GAME - Auto Play (toggle on-off)

Click on Auto Play and two cards are opened at random. If the cards match
then they remain open. Auto Play will continue until all cards are open
at which point you will be asked if you want to play another game.
Playing another game will not start in Auto Play mode.
Auto Play will turn off for the following events: click on GAME-Hints,
click on GAME-AutoPlay or click on GAME-New.

The Auto Play feature is great for demos of OS/2 as it shows
constant screen changes and plays for a long time as it does
not remember cards it had already opened (Non-smart auto-play).
Auto-Play uses very little CPU cycles and can be used to show-
off the multitasking of OS/2.

GAME - New:
Shuffles the cards and starts a new game.

GAME - Exit:
Exit the game.

Installation:

Note: REXX must be installed on your system for this game
to work. If you get an error message saying "VPIBUTTN.DLL"
when you first start the game, then check for the existence
of multiple VPOBJ.DLL files on your system (or missing
VPOBJ.DLL). You must have this file in order to run the
game without errors. This file is now included with this
game.

To install this game, unzip all files into the same
directory. You can create a shadow of the MEMORY2.EXE
object in the GAMES folder or the desktop for easy access.
To start the game, double-click on the MEMORY2.EXE object.
Installing this game on your system does not change
any of the INI or CONFIG.SYS files.

If you have the shareware evaluation version installed on your
system, you can delete it or install the registered version
over it to replace the evaluation version. The executable version
of the registered program is much larger in size as it contains
more pictures and options.

The following files belong to this program and are
absolutely necessary to run the game:

MEMORY2.EXE - the executable program
MEMORY2.TXT - this text file, also used as general help
                          within the game.
VPIButtn.DLL - Image button used for selecting backgrounds.
This is part of the VPExtras package.
Thanks to Dion Gillard for creating and
                       releasing these objects for free!

VPOBJ.DLL - Dynamic Link Library required for VPIButtn.DLL

MEMORY2.SCR - Created by MEMORY2.EXE and contains the top
ten scores. Scores and names are encrypted.
If this file is deleted, all scores accumulated
so far will be lost and when the game is run again
a new empty score file will be created.

HISTORY.TXT - List of changes to the game.

To remove this game from your system, close the game, delete
all your MEMORY2 objects or shadows from your desktop or
folders and delete all the files listed above.
