LOOK OUT FOR THE FINNAIR MD-82 COMING SOON TO SIMGAM/FSFORUM based on
R. Mitchell's Continental MD-80-82, with improvements such as enlarged
engines (looking very realistic), more accurate cockpit windows, improved
(new) MD-82 tail unit, cockpit window frames, accurate Finnair livery
and Mika Hissa's FDE for the MD-82!!!

LOOK OUT FOR VERSION 2.0 of my FINNAIR DC-9-51 to be based on Brian Quayle's
upcoming DC-9-51 to be released sometime in MAY 1996.

LOOK OUT ESPECIALLY FOR THE COMPLETE FINLAND SCENERY FROM
A GROUP OF FINNISH FS5 SCENERY DESIGNERS COMING TO FSFORUM/
	SIMGAM IN MAY 1996!!!

This is a modified MD-11 visual model with Finnair livery based on Kamal
Kerba's original MD-11 ER Swissair version. This contains the MD-11CF KLM
flight model. I think that the modified cockpit windows and the new nose
shape are more realistic for the MD-11 - but I could be wrong so this
requires a lot of feedback!!

The OH-LGC is one of four MD-11s owned by Finnair (http://www.finnair.fi)
and operates routes such as Helsinki-New York, Helsinki-Miami, Helsinki-
San Fransisco, Helsinki-Tokyo, Helsinki-Osaka (Kansai Intl.) including
numerous charter flights all around the world.

FINLAND
-------

Finland is a beautiful country with a population of approximately five
million people located in Northern Europe, in Scandinavia. The name given
to the country in English is not the same as that in Finnish. In Finnish,
the country is called Suomi from where the name of this .txt file is
derived.

Finland has one of the longest coastlines in the world due to its 188,900
lakes (which my second cousin Prof. Mikko Raatikainen once counted!!)
which have at least one island in them.

Finland has been a fully democratic country for 78 years and is a republic.
The president of Finland is (in 1996) MARTTI AHTISAARI, and the Prime
Minister is PAAVO LIPPONEN.

Helsinki - "The daughter of the Baltic"
---------------------------------------

Helsinki is the capital of Finland and has a population of 560,000 people. Helsinki is a simply beautiful city with
Its 19th Century buildings were built when Finland was a Grand Duchy of
Russia at this time.

Helsinki has two airports, with Helsinki-Vantaa being the major one (I am
going to design the other airport, Helsinki-Malmi, at some stage).
The Helsinki-Vantaa airport has been expanded greatly during the last
five years; a domestic terminal has been constructed and a new link
terminal between the International and the Domestic Terminal will be ready
in the Autumn of 1996.

Rovaniemi
---------

Rovaniemi is a town just 20 km south of the Arctic Circle. If you have
ever flown to Lapland to see Father Christmas, this is the place you
will have flown to.

The Rovaniemi-Toramo airport has expanded considerably to accommodate for
the increased tourism during both the Winter and the Summer seasons.
Goodwood Travel Ltd. organise supersonic BA Concorde flights to Rovaniemi
from where the tourists are transported in luxury to see Father Christmas
straight away, or to their hotels to rest, followed by a Winter Reindeer
Safari in search of Father Christmas.

The Lapland wing of the Finnish Air Force operates from this aerodrome.
The aircraft complement consists of Saab Drakens, BAe Hawks, Shorts
Tucanos (for training), and soon F-18C/Ds.

Other travel companies offer a wide range of charter flights to Lapland
both in Winter and in Summer.

Lapland has two excellent seasons. For the winter lover, the winter is
obviously the most suitable alternative, but for the nature lover both
winter and summer offer excellent choice. Cross country skiing trails
have been meticulously laid out, amassing several hundred kilometres of
trails in total. The Forestry Commission rents and looks after overnight
shelters which cross-country skiiers can use on long ski trails, or as
a base to explore the surrounding wilderness.

The sun does not rise at all during the 'kaamos' which is the period from
November to the middle of February, but daylight is replaced by a magical
blue shade, which provides a wonderful appearance to the snow-covered
landscape.

In Summer the sun never sets and it is perfectly possible to read a book
at 2 o'clock in the morning - not to speak of the possibilities to be in
the wilderness. Fishing for leisure is very extensive in Finland, with
fish being planted into the Lapp lakes continuously through the summer
season.

Finland is, in summary a great place for a holiday. The people are
friendly and the food is excellent. All the english people I know who have
been to Finland say that they had one of the best times of their lives in
Finland.

                             GO THERE!!

Flights from the UK to Finland (sorry I'do not know the prices for other
countries - contact your nearest travel agent for more information) are
relatively cheap.

The following is a list of approximate return flight prices on BA or
Finnair:

	London-Helsinki 180
	Manchester-Helsinki 190

Please contact your nearest travel agent for information on package tours
to Finland in winter and in summer.
