We encourage you to print this manual so that you can refer to it during
game play.

1. The windows of the screen

          1. Main window: This window gives you a detailed areal view of
the battle field. You may zoom in or out by using the zoom
[Image] toggle switch (5). To scroll to other areas of the battle
field, simply place the mouse cursor on the outside edge of
this window. Areas not yet explored are covered by thick
             clouds.

  2. Map window: This window contains a small map of the entire battle
field. A rectangular box indicates the area displayed on the main
window. You may click on this map to move the main window to a
different location, or to indicate destinations for troop movements.
  3. Selection window: While selected, each unit (men or vehicle) will be
represented in this window. Small bars indicate health status and
remaining ammo. A left mouse click on a selected unit will
automatically deselect all other units. A right mouse click on any
unit will center the main window on the designated unit. Holding down
the CTRL key while designating a unit with a left mouse click will
remove this unit from your selection.
  4. Message window. During the game, messages will appear in this window.
Clicking on a message will automatically center the main window on the
location that relates to it. Crucial messages are displayed in
inverted colors (White characters on a black background).
  5. Zoom toggle button.
  6. Message scroll knob. This knob allows you to scroll up or down the
     list of messages.

2. Issuing orders to your units

Most units are either under your command or under that of the enemy. Some
intelligence is programmed into each unit, however they will show little
initiative. Most often, they will faithfully obey your orders, but their
reactions can depend on their health status, morale, ... To issue an order
to one of your units, you must first select it. You can select a unit with
a left mouse click. You can select up to 9 units simultaneously by clicking
and dragging over several units at once. (Hold down the mouse button, frame
the units you wish to select, than release the mouse button). Selected
units will be displayed in little rectangles and will be represented in the
selection window along with their health status and remaining ammo. To add
to or exclude from your selection, repeat the same process while holding
down the CTRL key. Clicking on a unit icon in the selection window will
select that unit exclusively (unless the CTRL key is held down). Once you
have selected your unit(s), you can use one of two methods to issue an
order:

A. Menu orders

When you click with the right mouse button on a selected unit, the
Action Menu will appear. (See example) This menu indicates the
health status, the remaining ammo and the possible actions. In
this example, the only two possible actions are Go and Shoot
[Image]at. Issue your order by clicking on one of these actions. The
menu will disappear and the cursor will prompt you to designate
the location on the main window where you would like the action to
take place (if accuracy is not critical, you may select a location
        on the map window).
In the menu chosen for this example you can also click on Attitude. Doing
so will prompt you to chose one of three attitudes for the selected
unit(s):
           * CAREFUL: The unit will do its best to avoid any
             confrontation.
[Image] * QUICK: The unit will favor speed without much concern about
             the enemy.
           * NAUGHTY: The units will not hesitate to attack any enemy
             encountered while on the move.
Note that the content of the action menu varies according to the
capabilities of the selected unit(s). When several units are selected at
once, only the possible actions common to all the members of the group will
be available (For example if one of the units selected has ran out of ammo,
the Shoot at Action will not be available). A little X on the menu
indicates the order being carried out.

When you encounter a new type of unit, a quick look at its action menu will
inform you about this units capabilities. ALT+CLICK on a unit or an object
will bring a help screen.

B. Direct orders

Opening the Action menu can be necessary to issue some very specific
orders. However, for common orders a quicker method is available: When a
unit (or a group of units) is selected, clicking on the main window with
the right mouse button will issue a Direct order. If you designate an
empty location, your unit(s) will move to that location. If you designate
an enemy, your Unit(s) will attack that particular enemy. If you designate
an object, your unit(s) will pick it up. If you designate a vehicle, your
unit(s) will climb in. If you designate another friendly unit, your unit(s)
will follow it (Until another order is issued). You may also designate
locations on the map window.

C. Teaming

This feature allows you to group your units into teams. select the units
you want to team up, hold the CTRL key and hit 0 to 9. To select the team
later, just hit the corresponding 0 to 9 key.

3. Objects

Your troops can pick up certain objects including:

   * First aid kits restore your units health to 100%.
   * Ammo boxes gives any unit a full load of ammo.
   * Briefcases can only be picked up by officers and special force units.

They are very important as they often contain crucial
instructions and battle plans. Once a briefcase has been
picked up, it will appear on the icon of the unit that
picked it up. To examine the content, right-click on the
          icon.
