  NOTES:

Welcome to The Secret of Cooey! This 'little' RPG was created simply
because I wanted to make a small RPG using QuickBasic. It took me about
25 hours worth of coding to finish and compile this game, which was a
little longer than I expected. All of the MIDI music is from Secret of
Mana, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, and Xenogears. Why? Because I
can't get enough of Squaresoft RPG's! (Only FFII and FFTactics and my
Squaresoft RPG collection is complete, yes! Well, 'till FFVIII anyway!)

Originally, I had planned to put a lot more into this game, but I was
adamnant (Is that the right word?) not to use any EMS, or to split the
BAS file into multiple modules and includes, etc, etc...
So, what is the game missing? Well, the ending is a bit short, and I wish
that I could have put in more backgrounds, but other than that, I did
complete all that I wanted to, and hey, this is my first complete RPG! No
demo, or first episode, or anything like that for once! I'm hoping that
  this trend continues!

I've included the source code (As always, of course) so that anyone
could look at it to see how I did everything. If you are playing the
game, it is recommended that you run the EXE file using START.BAT.
The source code will run in QuickBasic 4.5 and Qbasic but without MIDI.
I also took the MIDI out of the source code, since there isn't enough
memory in the IDE for it to play properly. If you are experiencing some
problems with the EXE, then run the SOC.BAS file through QuickBasic 4.5
  or Qbasic.

Before you run the EXE, make sure to have SBMIDI and SBSIM loaded or your
computer will likely crash. Just run the game using the START.BAT file
  and you should be fine.

Anyway, a quick summary of commands in the game: The arrow keys move your
character around, the space bar is used to talk, open chests, and call up
your sub menu, that's it. To use items, magic, battle commands, etc, just
press the corresponding number next to the command. Ie, if you saw 1. Run,
then you would press 1 to run. Got it? Good.
