BASEBALL.EXE (Version 1.16)
(aka "The January Patch")

These are almost relatively small bugs (except for that crash bug),
and hopefully you probably haven't even noticed many of them.
The important changes for the serious player are that it is now
harder to get good rookies in a trade, and the computer teams
will no longer go into serious debt ($100 million or more).

Significant changes since Version 1.15:
1. Fixed the crash bug in the player editor.

Significant changes since Version 1.14:
1. Cursor responds to moving over interface items (e.g. buttons)
2. Crash in PBP screen fixed (by clicking when no game in progress)
3. DH correct in interleague play
4. Some headlines shortened to fit on screen
5. Scouting Button in Headlines always leads to correct player

Significant changes since Version 1.13:
1. Trade AI values quality rookies more highly
2. Computer teams don't go into deep debt to support a large payroll
3. Superstars (especially pitchers) have less consistent careers
4. Pinch hitters no longer awarded the win in some late-inning comebacks
5. Saves awarded correctly (fixing an occasional problem with multiple relief pitchers)
6. Player Editor now allows changing a player's position (if you do change a player's position, be sure to alter the fielding stats to fit the context of his new position).
7. Problem with Endurance rating fixed (including increased player Endurance as the seasons progress).
8. Calendar looks better in 256-color mode
9. "Minimum Salary" Free Agents no longer seek negative salaires on occasion
10. Most relievers no longer make suitable starting pitchers
11. Game Recap button now disabled in Trade Stories (this used to lead to a crash)
12. Scouting write-up text no longer changes as the scroll bar is dragged
13. Fielding stats no longer accrued in the post-season (this had led to some players with "177" games played in one season, for example)
14. Injuries always heal in the off-season
15. Sacrifice Flies and Sacrifice Bunts are recorded properly
16. Hall Of Fame voting now shown as a percentage of votes received (75% is needed for induction)

Several other tiny bugs were fixed (such as misspellings, badly aligned numbers, and grammar errors).

Also, we are releasing a new UNIVERSE.DAT file with the following changes:
1. A number of errors among active major leaguers (most notably age and years of major league experience) were corrected.
2. Several players with no major league experience before 1997, such as Jose Cruz Jr., were added to the database, with abilities based on scouting reports and their 1997 performance.
3. Rookies who performed surprisingly well in 1997 (e.g. Nomar Garciaparra or Livan Hernandez) have been altered so that their performance in Baseball Mogul will better match their real-life performance.
4. Several average young players that consistently became superstars in Baseball Mogul have been toned down to more realistic levels.

Note: This is NOT a new "1998 Database". Play with this database will still begin in April 1997, and career stats THROUGH 1997 have not been added. This database is simply an improvement in accuracy and completeness upon the one that shipped with Baseball Mogul.
