Running Close Combat from HD (Win95)

I figured out how to run Close Combat from HD...finally everyone can now make their own
new battles.

I just hope that Atomic won't be angry at me for this info. If there will be any problems I will
have to take this paragraph off my page..(hope not).

Ok so here we go, follow these steps:

1)
Before you do anything you need to create a Virtual CD-ROM on your win95 system.
First download fakecd20.zip file from my page. Open the zip file and extract the
file fakecd.exe into a drive where you want to create new Virtual CD-ROM drive.
Say I have 3 HDs...I use my "E" drive for games(you can use "C" or whatever drive
you use for games)...so I extract the fakecd.exe into "E:".I Make sure that I put it into
the "root" directory of my HD.

Now I open my autoexec.bat and type this in:
E:\FAKECD E:\close /L:G (assuming that "E" is my game HD)

What this actually means is that I'm using fakecd.exe to create from "E:\close" directory
my new CD-ROM with the letter "G". I save my autoexec.bat...and reboot my machine...
and go to win95. If I go now you "my computer" icon on win95 desktop I'm able to see that
I have a new CD-ROM installed under drive letter "G". No I'm ready to start installation
of Close Combat.

2)
Insert the Close Combat CD into your CD-ROM (real drive)....and copy all the files in the
root directory into the "G:" drive (or whatever is your letter for your Virtual CD-ROM).
Next copy the whole directory of "Setup" into your "G:" drive by dragging the folder into your
Virtual CD-ROM. Now copy the "Data" directory from CD into your "G:" drive...BUT...
don't copy files inside "\data\Videos"...(only if you have a lot of space available
on your HD..Close Combat is about 377 MB) and also If you don't want to waste another
80 MB DON'T copy help file, create empty text file in notepad and save it as cc.hlp,
make sure that this file is in your Virtual drive in "data" directory. After that change
the attribute of all the files in your Virtual CD-ROM to -R...by running command
"attrib -r *.* /s".

3) Copy videos.zip into your new video directory.

4)
Now take the Close Combat CD out of the real CD-ROM...and open the Virtual CD-ROM folder
and run setup as you usually do. After the installation , if you want to install any upgrades
no problem, do it as you usually do. Now you run Close Combat as you usually do by clicking
on the shortcut on your win95 or going to the "Start" menu...MAKE SURE you press [ESC]..
many times so that you can skip the Intro videos...if you don't the game will crash since we
didn't copy animations files. When you get to the Close Combat "Command" screen make sure you
deselect "Videos" under "Options" menu so that Close Combat will not crash next time you run it.

That's all...now your Close Combat will load much faster since it's running from a HD
not from CD-ROM and now you can start creating new battles :)

Enjoy...
