Info
-----

This is a win95 program that lets you edit the
cars,cockpits,tracks,skies and sounds used in F1RS.
This program would not have been possible
without the great utils created by Martin GranBerg,
Grant Reeve, Christian Tamasius and sound information
from Roland Kohrsen, Testing By David Baz

INSTALLATION
------------

Simply run the F1RSEDIT.EXE file in this zip file
The installation program may ask u to shutdown and restart
If it does simple run the file again once your computer
restarts

OTHER INFORMATION
------------------------------------------------------------

LOADING TIME
------------

The very first time F1RSEDIT loads it will take forever.
To speed up the loading time next time around go
into the options tab and unselect the checkboxes
marked:
	(Extract Cars on Startup)
	(Extract Cockpits on Startup)

The very first time you run F1RSEDIT it will
automatically extract cars and cockpits for you.
To view the tracks you have to manually extract
them the first time by clicking 'EXTRACT ALL'
in the TRACKS tab.

EDITING IMAGES
--------------

CARS
----

The best way to do it is to click SAVE from
within the editor and enter the name of the
image your saving in a directory of your choice

Load this file in a paint program like Paint shop pro
and edit away. When painting cars its best to increase
the colors to 16million (24bit) and then paint away.
Once your happy with your new image

- Save the file and load up my program
- Select the team where you want to insert your new car
- Click on open and locate the file you just made & click Ok
  It will now appear in place of the original image
- Click insert and the file will be inserted

NOTES
-----

If for example you paint a ferrari and insert into
a benetton its wont look right because the panels are
different for each car so it best to just insert
into the original car.

If you stuff up anything you can restore car images
back to their originals by copying
the f1tdc.gar file from your cdrom back into
f1datab\voitures\ and it will be back to the
original cars that came with the game

Also whilst your inserting its probably
best to hit extract after youve finished so
you can check what changes have actually been
made.

SOUND EDITING
-------------

Currently all the sounds in the game are
16bit 22050mhz mono samples. The editor allows
22050 - 16bit or 8bit, mono or stereo
44100 - 16bit or 8bit, mono or stereo
to be inserted

INSERTING A SOUND
-----------------

- Select one of the sounds

- Click on REPLACE button

- Select the file you want to replace the current one
  with and click OPEN SOUND button

- Thats it , press the PLAY button to listen to it

If the check box on on the sound tab is selected then
the parameters will be updated with the new sounds
information and then inserted into F1RS.

The parameters automatically update are

- Sound Rate
- Channels
- Resolution
- Sound Used
- Sound Size

You will have to edit the loop info yourself
and then click INSERT SETTINGS when your happy
If you dont select the checkbox then the parameters
wont be affect when you load in the sound and
you will have to adjust it manually.

EXAMPLE

I select the flam16a Sound

Click on REPLACE button

Located the original Gear change down
sound from GP2 (sound4.wav) and click on OPEN SOUND

Changed
Sound size - 10000
Loop End - 10000

Click on INSERT SETTINGS and start up F1RS
and it works Ok

PLAY BUTTON
-----------

The PLAY button will only play the external
sound in the f1datab/Resson/ directory
(ie the wave files sitting in that directory)
Even if the Sound used parameter is set to Internally

INSERT SETTING
--------------

Inserts the current setting displayed in the
parameters into F1RS for the selected sound.

GENERAL SOUND INFO
------------------

Basically when you insert a sound youll probably
want to check a few things

Make sure Actual File size = Sound size

Only insert xxx.wav files as other formats wont
work

When editing the engine sound you will have to
do it to both B30p1a sounds

The sizes reported by the editor of sounds is
usually 44bytes smaller than what win95 will
say. This is OK . The program automatically
adjust the F1RS settings to ignore the first
44 bytes of the wave file wnich is only header
information.

Also if you make sounds it would be good to included
details in your readme files about the settings
needed for them to work properly

OPTIONS TAB
-----------

The options tab shows a few directory options.
These directories settings allow you to tell
F1RSEDIT what directory to look in when you
click on the numerous 'NEW' and 'SAVE' buttons
located throughout the tabs

Example

If in the OPTIONS tab I set the cockpits directory
to c:\games\f1rs\cockpits\ then when I click on
the 'NEW COCKPIT' button in the COCKPITS tab the
program will automatically put you in that directory
when it opens up the file dialog form. So if you
download cockpits from the internet and put them
in that directory every time you click on 'NEW COCKPIT'
you will seem all your downloaded cockpits automatically
without having to go huntimg around your harddrive looking
for them. The same principle applies for all the other
directories and related tabs.

F1RSRAYS
--------

I though it would make everybodies life easier if
I included a button within the editor which will
startup Martin's utility and also a button so once
youve finished all you editing you can click to
launch F1RS and close F1RSEDIT. For F1RSRAYS to
load you have to set the directory where it is installed
via the options tab

PROBLEMS
--------

If you get an error on startup that states that the
program couldnt find the game directory then it
means that "ubi.ini" file in your windows/ubisoft/
directory is missing information about F1RS which
really isnt possible.

Below is a sample of a "ubi.ini" file

--------------------------------------------------------
[SYSTEM]
3DFX=1
Memory=31
Windows colors=32
CPU=12

[OSD]
Valid=TRUE

[INSTALLED PRODUCTS]
F1RS

[F1RS]
ShortCutDesktopName=C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\To Play F1RS
ShortCutDirectory=C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\Ubi Soft Games\F1RS
Language=English
Configuration=2
VolumeName=F1RS
SrcDataPath=\
Directory=c:\1Games\F1RS\
FFDevTypePlayer0=JOY
FFDevTypePlayer1=JOY
-------------------------------------------------------------

My program refers to the 3rd line from the bottom
(in the info shown above) to determine where you
have F1RS installed. If it cant find this line then you
will get an error message and my program wont start. It
searches for the line that starts with "Directory=" and
then takes the rest of the line as your game directory.

Thats it, if you find any bugs email me

http://www.ozemail.com.au/~bazar/

IMPORTANT
---------

I wont answer emails about problems that
are answered in this readme or in the FAQ at
my site http://www.ozemail.com.au/~bazar/.
Everything should work fine. If its not
then your most likely doing something wrong.
I did answer emails before but now theres to
many so I just answer the easy ones the rest
of them seem to be the users fault or them
having some bizarre system which doesnt run
properly. So you can send them but I wont
guarantee that youll get a reply as I just dont
have the time.
