* WHAT DOES THIS THING DO?

This sound pack will replace 2 sounds in GP2. The starting of the engine,
and the engine at idle sound with actual early 1996 Ferrari V12 F1 sounds!

* CAN I TRUST YOU? IS THIS _REAL_FERRARI_V12_F1 SOUND?

Yes, you can. I was lucky enough to attend the Monterey Historic Races
at Laguna Seca a few weeks ago, and bought an Audio CD of engine sounds.
Two of the audio tracks were made at Fiorano, the Ferrari test track in Italy
with sounds of the V12 and the V10 Ferrari idling and at speed.

The recording is incredible and accurately portrays ( on good speakers )
the engines. The simulator only uses 8 bit, 11KHZ, mono sounds, :( , but the
recording came out fairly well.

I used Creative 'OLE directly from CD to Disk to capture the sounds and adjust
their format from 16 Bit, Stereo, 44KHZ to the format used by the sim. It's the
best I could do. The info on the CD I purchased is at the bottom of these docs.

* HOW DO I INSTALL IT ?

It uses the GP2WAV Utility (included) by M.Giorgio - esatb@mbox.vol.it
to extract the 100 .WAV files from the SAMPLE.CAT file in your GP2\SOUND
directory. It replaces SAMPLE5.WAV and SAMPLE6.WAV and reassembles
the SAMPLE.CAT with the modified sound set.

It's easy and safe. Here's how.

1) Unzip this archive into a temporary directory.

2) Change directories to your GP2\SOUND directory.

3) Copy SAMPLE.CAT to the temporary directory.

4) Rename GP2\SOUND\SAMPLE.CAT to SAMPLE.BAK. This backs up
your original sound file, in case you don't like Ferrari V12 sound.
    ( not likely ).

5) Change to the temporary directory which now contains the contents of this
    archive, plus your original SAMPLE.CAT.

6) Execute the following commands.

    extwav
    del sound5.wav
    del sound6.wav
    ren sound5.wa~ sound5.wav
    ren sound6.wa~ sound6.wav
    inswav

7) Your SAMPLE.CAT is now updated with the new sounds. Copy it
back to the GP2\SOUND directory. You can then delete the files in your
    temporary directory.

8) You are ready to run GP2,

* WILL I LIKE IT?

I don't know. I personally LOVE it. It seems that the idling sound is carried
forward somewhat into the revving sounds of the engine (which are unmodified).
I don't understand this, but I think you will also notice a more mechanical,
gritty sound while at speed!! I think it sounds great!

* CAN I REMOVE THE SOUNDS IF I WISH?

Yep. Just delete the file SAMPLE.DAT in your GP2\SOUND directory and
rename SAMPLE.BAK, in the same directory to SAMPLE.CAT.

* WHY DIDN'T YOU INCLUDE THE V10 SOUNDS? AFTER ALL, THIS IS 1996!

The V10 sounds on the CD are BREATHTAKING. However, most are taken
at speed, and I may tackle that if this goes well... Version 2??

* I DON'T DRIVE A FERRARI IN GP2. IS IT STILL O.K. TO DO THIS?

No.
Kidding, of course. :)

* WHY IS THIS LISTED AS VERSION 1?

'Cause maybe I'll add more, or improve this pack in the future!
Possibly true at-speed Ferrari sound?

Besides, everyone else does it.. :)

* DO I HAVE TO PAY YOU FOR THIS??

YES.
Kidding again.
I would appreciate some feedback as to how you like/hate it and
any ideas for Version ?.
