Mercenary Sniper TROUBLESHOOTHING
=================================

* If you experience mouse input problems (riflescope won't move at all
or moves very slowly...) then you may have a incompatible mouse driver
(too old). In such case get newest version of the Microsoft Mouse Driver
(v9.00+ should be just fine) or run the game under Windows' DOSBOX.

* If you have a REALLY old SoundBlaster 1.0/1.5 then game's sound quality
is very grainy... there is no solution to improve it... except to play
the game under DOS... but I recommend you to purchase a new SoundBlaster
  like SB16 or AWE32.

* If you have selected too small or too high dma buffer size then you
may hear some clicks (note: start menu background module causes clicks
ALWAYS because of game's playing engine) between DMA buffer fills.
I recommend you to select a DMA buffer size of 1024 bytes (if possible).

* If you select high mixing frequency (44 KHz) from SETUP and have a big
DMA buffersize then sound quality may become very poor. In such case
try to decrease the size of DMA buffer to 512 bytes or less. Common tip:
If sound quality is poor then try all possible DMA buffer sizes and use
the one which produces best quality for your system... !

* The game detects your processor when starting. The detect code works
well with Intel's processors but I haven't been able to test it with
Cyrix's or AMD's processors. If it crashes / hangs then I recommend
you to run the game with parameter -FORCE_486 (which will skip this
  processor autodetect part)

* If the game crashes while exiting to Operating System and you have
selected soundcard from setup then the problem is the game's sound
engine. Only Windows DPMI services will "survive" from the game's
soundcard engine's init/deinit/mix code (for some weird reason the
sound engine is very unstable). To prevent this crash I recommend
you to run the game under Windows' DOSBOX and only to use extended
memory (but if the game doesn't crash with your system under RAW DOS
then use DOS because it is "better" than Windows' DOSBOX for the game).

* If you have a (free) memory (say less than 4 MB) and game starts to use
virtual memory then there's 99.999% chance that game will crash.
To remove virtual memory support (under DOS) run CWSDPMI with
parameter: -s-. The game should say you whether you have sufficient
  enough memory or haven't...
NOTE: default virtual memory path is c:\ !

* If you play the game under Windows DOSBOX and start the game via
a shortcut then I recommend you to set the IDLE SENSITIVITY to
far left otherwise game may not start unless switched to full
screen mode at start of loading the game...

* You have a Gravis Ultra Sound or AWE32 and you want native support for
  such soundcard(s).
Solution: none... native AWE32 and Gravis Ultra Sound drivers
are ready. But I am not able to add them to game because module player
should be totally rewritten (now it is software mixing hardcoded) and this
would take too much time and I have not such time now ;) SB16/AWE32
software driver (=SB16 driver) should give you enough quality... but
with GUS I am not sure whether the game drivers even work with SBOS/MEGAEM.
(because the game runs under protected mode)

* If you run this game under Windows 95's DOS-BOX and press ALT + ENTER
(switch to window) then the game updates the screen incorrectly.
=> Solution: set mouse to exclusive mode (DOS-BOX's properties)

* If STEREO mode does't work properly with your SoundBlaster PRO then there
you don't have a 100% SoundBlaster PRO compatible soundcard (a clone SBPRO).

* If your SB compatible soundcard doesn't work with the game, please
check that environment variable called BLASTER is set correctly !
And you can always force no sound via clearing BLASTER environment
variable in the following way: SET BLASTER=

* You experience (random) General Protection Fault error when running the
game (or when playing the game). Are you sure that you are using CWSDPMI
and not other NON COMPATIBLE DPMI "driver" (like QDPMI) ?.
If you are using a CWSDPMI then there is a bug in your system or in the
game (probably the latter one in most cases)

* The game animates sprites around 50 times in a second, so if
you notice that the animation and sprite movement are unsmooth then you
should consider trying following solutions, if you are still going to
  play the game SMOOTHLY:

  "Software solutions":
  1) Run the game with run.bat without any parameters (like -HIGH or
-DOUBLE_FREQ) which will slowdown processor. And remember to not to
press G during the game which will change the AGCE sprite rendering
     mode.

  2) If you are not running the game under DOS and you have DOS then I
recommend you to boot to DOS and run the game from there.
(Windows 95 slows down mixing engine, DMA transfer, VRP waiting, etc)

  3) Make sure that you have at least 4 MB of free memory
(if you don't have try to boot your system as clean as possible,
but remember to load DPMI & MOUSE before running game).
Remove all possible non needed TSR programs (like virusscan, etc).
You may also want to disable sounds and music to gain more free
extended memory => select no soundcard from setup ;)

  4) If you are running the game under Windows then I recommend you to
close all possible applications/background threads before starting the
game to gain maximum system performance.

  "Hardware solution":
  1) Buy a faster computer (a Pentium should be just fine)
