PIETER'S GRANDPRIX 2 1996 CARSET v5.0

What's new?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Compared to carset 4.5 we changed the following things:

   * New cars
   * New helmets
   * New performances

There's also an .EXE version available which contains:
   * A nice installation procedure for Windows 3.1 or higher which
makes the installation even more easier to do.

About the Carset
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pieter's 1996 Carset 5.0 will update the ultimate formula one
simulator Grandprix 2 from Microprose fully to the 1996 season.

   It contains:
1996 cars, helmets, drivers, numbers, performance patches that support
all versions of GP2, pitbox order patch, changed cockpit colors to
match the colors of the cars, new pitcrew colors, new wheels and an
installation file to make the installation as easy as possible.

   NOTE:
The installation uses the default BHP and weight values
for the player's car, so it should be no problem to use the set
      with a racing league.

To install the carset read the installation section below.

The newest version of this carset can be found on
   Pieter's GP2 Homepage: http://VOLftp.tin.it/GP2

About the cars
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Normally GP2 uses 14 teams to drive with. However, in the 1996
season, only 11 teams were participating. Because GP2 has to handle
at least 13 teams, we added a fictious Pieter's GP2 team and a
Dome team. One team will be left out of the game.
So after the installation, there will remain 13 teams driving
instead of the normal 14. We've done this to come as close to
   the real thing as possible.

So if you want to add your own personal car, you will need the editor
   to change this.

About the patch
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The patch that's used in this carset (P96CS50.GP2), is created with
  Steven Young's GP2Edit v1.60 for Windows.
If you want to adjust some settings, you need GP2Edit v1.60
which you can find on Pieter's Homepage.

About the wheels
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The wheels have been designed by James Ariz exclusively for Pieter's
Grandprix 2 Carsets and may not be distributed as a separate
GP2 add-on or included as part of any other GP2 carset.

Installation
------------------------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT: This carset will change your original GP2.EXE, F1GSTATE.SAV
             and JAM files!
Make a backup of these files.

You can only use this carset if you used the maximum
             installation of GP2.

This is what you have to do:
(And what you probably already have done. :-)

  1. Download and install GP2 Edit v1.60.
     You can find it on:
     - Pieter's GP2 Homepage
        http://VOLftp.tin.it/GP2
     - The GP2 Edit page
        http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/smyoung/gp2edit.htm

  2. Before you load the set, disable the Fix Green Palette option
     in the Options/Program Configuration menu!
This will make some of the cars look better.

  3. Using Windows:
Load the file P96CS50.GP2 into the editor and choose the menu
Options, Export to Game to install the set.

     Using DOS:
Please refer to the GP2DOSX.TXT file that comes with GP2 Edit.

The first time you start GP2 after the installation, you may
have to change some things again. E.g. your steering device setup,
  graphics options etc.

Trouble shooting
------------------------------------------------------------------------

During installation you will see remarks about the changed palette.
You can ignore these, it will cause no problems.

If you are experiencing some troubles, try to patch the game again
using the original unaltered GP2.EXE and F1GSTATE.SAV.

When after the installation GP2 locks at starting up, simply delete
the file F1GSTATE.SAV from the GP2 directory. Then start the game,
load the saved race P96CS50.QRL which is located in the 96CARSET
directory. Then exit the game with Save Changes activated.

When you load a previously saved game, the names, numbers and cockpit
colors will change to their original values. Remember this!
If you did load a saved game by accident and you saved the changes,
you can reset the game to the 1996 season loading the saved race
P96CS50.QRL which is located in the 96CARSET directory.
Then exit the game with Save Changes activated.

The helmets in the menu cannot be changed yet.
But within the game they are ok.
