Hello!

It is very important to Monolith that we support the Blood gamer! To that
end, we have decided to release our map editor (MAPEDIT) to the world - even
before - the full version of Blood hits the store shelves!! This is being
done as a service to our gamers, and due to the many requests we have
received.

There are a few things to know in advance:

The maps that you make with MapEdit, will NOT work with the shareware version
of Blood. They will only work with the FULL commercial version.

This means that you can not extract a map from the shareware version, modify
it, then load it with the shareware. Mapedit is NOT designed to be able to
save usable shareware maps.

What you can do is - load an example map (to see how things work), modify and
save it, and use it with the full version when it comes out! OR make a whole
new map just from scratch!

Also, there are other tools that will only be included in the full version.
So, until you get the full version you will not be able to edit the art or
sounds as well.

The big question is - If a person can't play the maps they make, why release
the editor at all?

Here is our thinking:

Blood is on schedule. That means you will see it in the stores in MAY (only a
few weeks when this is written). We think that by providing a map editor for
people to learn how to use now, gamers can be proficient with the Blood tools
in advance of the game release. This will hopefully accomplish 2 things:

1.)	It will reduce the 'lag time' of gamers having to wait for the game
to come out, THEN play through it, THEN learn the map editor to make
their own maps. By the time Blood comes out, everyone who cares will
have a good grasp of how to make their own 'ultimate' level,
resulting in really cool user levels appearing on the net faster for
        everyone to enjoy.

2.)	It will give people the ability to build custom maps for Blood NOW,
and put them up on their web pages, ftp sites, etc. This will let the
different web sites, BloodRings, and Game Networks distinguish
themselves from each other - they will be able to offer special
        *exclusive* maps for their members.

In short, we are putting this out there to give gamers an edge, and not to
make them wait unnecessarily!

Monolith would like to thank you for your support! Your response has been
tremendous! Definitely look for continued support for Blood! We are working
hard to bring you an awesome game experience.

Also, look for Blood to be on (and optimized for) these on-line services;

Kali, TEN, Heat, Engage, DWANGO, and MPATH

Take care,

How to unzip the editor:

The editor include three files:
mapedit.exe	The editor
mapedit.txt	Keys for mapedit
e1m6.map	A shareware map. Note that this map CANNOT be read by the
shareware version of Blood, just like the maps you create
                cannot be read.

You must run this program from the directory where you have installed the
shareware. You will only have access to the shareware art and sounds until
you get the registered version (of course).

READ THE LICENSE.TXT FILE FOR THE PASSWORD FOR THE ZIP FILE.
