Uptime for Windows 95/98
Version 1.2 - Freeware
Copyright 1997, 1998 Jere Kpyaho (jere@sci.fi)

Uptime is a simple Windows 95/98 utility that shows the time since
the Windows system was last booted.

The program installs a small icon in the Windows 95 Taskbar
"tray". When you position the mouse over the icon, you will
soon see a "tooltip" displaying the elapsed time since boot-up:

    Up 0 d 5 h 55 min 17 s

Here Windows has been up for 5 hours, 55 minutes, and
17 seconds. Note that if you manage to keep Windows 95 up
for over 47 days, the timer will roll over and start from zero.

When you move the mouse away from the small icon, the text
disappears.

You can close the program by double-clicking the small icon.
A click with the secondary mouse button pops up a menu with
two options, "About Uptime..." and "Close". The "About Uptime..."
menu command displays author and version information, and
the "Close" menu command closes the program (same as the
double-click mentioned above).

Uptime was developed for Windows 95. It has also been tested
with Windows 98, and it will probably also work with Windows NT
4.0.

In the distribution archive you will also find UptimeC.exe,
which is a Win32 console application that displays uptime
information without the graphical user interface.

What's new
----------
Uptime now logs system startups and shutdowns. The time of the
startups and shutdowns are written into a text file called
"Uptime Log.txt" in the program's directory.

Here is a sample of the log file format:

STARTUP,1998-07-16 09:27:11
SHUTDOWN,1998-07-16 10:41:33,0:01:15:00

The log file entries are comma-delimited. The first field contains
either "STARTUP" or "SHUTDOWN". The second field contains the date
and time of the event in international format. The third field only appears in shutdown events and indicates the total uptime of the session (days:hours:minutes:seconds).

Uptime was programmed with Borland Delphi 3.0 from Inprise.
Version 1.2 marks a major internal reorganization, with several
new Delphi custom components for tray operations and version information. Uptime uses the TTrayIcon component by Pete Ness,
slightly augmented.
