THE HISTORY

Pacific was founded by Keith Wiggins in 1984 when he
entered Harald Huysman in the European and Benelux Formula
Ford Championships. The combination of car, driver and
engineer proved a good one with successes in both
Championships.

The next year Keith started his long, successful
partnership with Bertrand Gachot who drove to British
FF1600, FF2000 and the FF2000 World Cup titles. During this
time, Pacific formed a good relationship with Philip Morris
Inc. and the Marlboro liveried cars driven in the British,
European and World Cup FF2000 event's took first
(J.J.Lehto) and second (Jason Elliot) in all three.

The next season saw Pacific winning the British Formula 3
title with J.J.Lehto still leading the team. It was,
however, the next year that Pacific made the most daring
leap to Formula 3000.

In 1989 Pacific entered the F3000 Championship with 2
Reynards (still with the Marlboro livery) driven by
J.J.Lehto and Eddie Irvine. By 1991, the team had
established itself as one of the elite and Brazilian
Christian Fittipaldi (of F1 and IndyCars) gained the title
for them. In 1992, with drivers Jordi Gene and Laurent
Aiello, the cars were competitive again (1 win that season).

While the team prepared itself for Formula 1 in 1993, David
Coulthard (now driving for Williams) and Michael Bartels
drove with Coulthard taking one win and coming third in the
Championship.

In October 1993, Pacific unveiled its new (and first)
F1 car: the Ilmor engined PRO1. The car, driven by Bertrand
Gachot and Paul Belmondo, proved not to be competitive.

However, Keith Wiggins ensured efficiency in the team so
that Pacific could endure the trials of a newborn in F1 and
remain to race in the seasons ahead.

The 1995 season model, the PRO2, has proved a different
kettle of fish to it's slow predecessor, with both cars
regularly outpacing some of the more established teams.
