GARY A N D E R S O N - Technical Director
===========================================================

Gary Anderson was born on 9 March, 1951 in Coleraine,
Northern Ireland. After completing technical studies and
working as a mechanic, he was hired by the Motor Racing
Stables in Brands Hatch, England.

In 1972, he switched Brabham to become second mechanic on
Wilson Fittipaldi's car six months later. In 1974, he was
named chief mechanic and became interested in car design.
In 1975, Gordon Murray asked him to assist in designing the
1975 Alfa Romeo powered Brabham.

Between designing sessions, Gary dreamed of becoming a
driver. In 1975, this led him to buy an old Brabham Formula
3 chassis which he modified and rebuilt. Lacking time, he
asks Dick Parson to drive the car in the British F3
Championship.

Based on these encouraging results, he quit Brabham and
founded his own company, building the highly-praised Anson
chassis in 1977, equipped with a highly-innovative
rear-suspension system.

After selling the system to a group of Iranian investors,
he returned to Formula 1, with McLaren, in charge of the
replacement vehicle. He was then named chief mechanic and
worked with Gordon Coppuck on the design of new McLaren
cars.

In 1978, he left the circuit to redesign the M28 which was
so successful that he was asked by McLaren to design
one-third of the new M29.

In 1980, he founded Anson Racing with two partners,
providing expertise and making "skirts" for the Formula 1
industry. The following year, Anson turned down
Alfa Romeo's offer to head up research, preferring to work
on his carbon fibre cockpit.

In the two following years, Anson was to manufacture about
30 cars, all designed by Anderson, including a Super Vee
car in carbon which won its first victory on its first
outing in the US. Anson's Formula 3's were to be among the
best on the British circuit and took the German
Championship in 1983.

Anson was purchased in 1984 by Pacemaker Corp., but
following management disputes, Gary left the company to
head up Rick Galles's Indy team. In 1988, Gary joined
Bromley Motorsport in the UK where he worked on a Reynard
chassis with which Roberto Moreno was to win the F 3000
title, leading to a cooperative effort with Reynard to
design a new F 3000.

His old friend Eddie Jordan then asked him to help design
his Formula 1 car. Gary is given the responsibility of
heading up a team of three designers and in 1991, the
Jordan is unanimously praised as the best new design of the
year, with Jordan taking fifth place among manufacturers in
its inaugural year.

For the next two years, Jordan is forced to change motor
suppliers, thus limiting design advances. With a Hart motor
for two consecutive years, the designers make greater
progress, winning their first pole position in 1994,
getting on the podium and finishing fifth among
manufacturers.

This resounding success was to lead to the technical
agreement with Peugeot in 1995 and Anderson naturally took
the head of an eight-man engineering team, faced with the
challenge of designing a new car to meet the new 1995
standards. Anderson met the challenge and presented the
all-new Jordan 195 at the end of January 1995.
