Mild Seven Benetton-Renault Profile


1983:    Benetton enter Formula 1 for the first time by
         sponsoring Tyrrell for one year. 

1984:    Benetton start a 2 year deal with the Alfa Romeo
         F1 team.

1986:    Benetton Formula Ltd. established in the former
         Toleman premises (Toleman gave Ayrton Senna his
         first F1 drive). Drivers Teo Fabi (apologies for
         spelling) and Gerhard Berger drive well with
         Berger taking a win at the Mexican GP and 2 poles.

1987:    Berger leaves the team for Ferrari but Thierry
         Boutsen joins in his place. Fifth in the
         Constructors' Championship with 28 points (Boutsen
         8th with 16 points, Fabi 9th with 12 points). 

1988:    Fabi leaves and is replaced with Alessandro
         Nannini. Third in the Constructors' Championship
         with 39 points (Boutsen 4th with 27 points, Nannini
         9th with 12 points). 

1989:    Win at Japanese GP. Fourth in the Constructors'
         Championship with 39 points (Nannini 6th with 16
         points, Herbert 14th with 5 points, Pirro 23rd
         with 2 points). 

1990:    Benetton one-two at Japanese GP and first in
         Australian GP. Third in the Constructors'
         Championship with 71 points (Piquet 3rd with 43
         points, Nannini 8th with 21 points, Moreno 10th
         with 6 points). 

1991:    Victory at Canadian GP. Fourth in the Constructors
         Championship with 38.5 points (Nannini 6th with
         26.5 points, Moreno 10th with 8 points, Schumacher
         12th with 4 points). 

1992:    New technical centre at Enstone opened. Start of
         the new era of Benetton. Win at Belgian GP. Points
         taken in every race. Third in the Constructors'
         Championship with 91 points (Schumacher 3rd 53
         points, Brundle 6th with 38 points). 

1993:    Victory in Portugal. Third in the Constructors'
         Championship with 72 points (Schumacher 4th with
         52 points, Patreses 5th with 20 points). 

1994:    World Drivers' Championship taken by M.Schumacher.
         Wins at: Brazil, Aida (Pacific GP), San Marino,
         Monaco, Canada, France, Hungary, Jerez (European
         GP). Second place in Constructors' Championship
         (Schumacher 1st with 92 points, Verstappen 10th
         with 10 points, Lehto 25th with 1 point).
