Marlboro McLaren Mercedes

McLaren International and Mercedes-Benz share a new
partnership which merges the extraordinary histories of
both companies in automotive engineering. Mercedes bring
to the association a pedigree well established over the
past 101 years of competition.

The names of their drivers, Rudolf Caracciola, Juan-Manuel
Fangio and Stirling Moss, and the "Silver Arrows" they had
the privilege to drive so successfully, have become
legendary.

McLaren stamped its authority on the world of motor racing
in a more recent past. In 28 years of competing in Formula
One, they have triumphed in 104 Grands Prix. The talents of
Emerson Fittipaldi, James Hunt, Alain Prost and Ayrton
Senna also brought nine Drivers and seven Constructors
Championship titles to the team.

McLaren and Mercedes-Benz are renowned for their
achievements in technical excellence. Through their deep
commitment to research and advanced engineering, they have
succeeded in improving the safety and reliability of their
cars whilst utilising the most sophisticated and
technologically advanced components.

In formulating a long-term strategy, both companies foresee
the necessity to invest in youth. This is something that
Mercedes-Benz and McLaren understand and actively promote.

The Junior team concept for Mercedes has long been
established and has reaped much success in motor racing.
The examples of Michael Schumacher, Heinz-Harald Frentzen
and Karl Wendlinger are ample proof of the success of this
Junior philosophy.

Since 1989, McLaren has been the driving force behind the
McLaren-Autosport Young Driver of the Year Award, a scheme
which rewards the best talent in the junior racing formulae.

Jan Magnussen, the young and talented Danish driver, is
symbolic of this investment in the next generation of
drivers. He provides the link between the two teams: test
driver for Marlboro McLaren Mercedes and team member of the
Mercedes AMG team in DTM.

The McLaren-Mercedes partnership could extend beyond the
immediate world of motor racing. A whole range of research
and design projects are being discussed between both
companies with a view to developing an integrated approach
to high technology ventures. This is an central part of the
engineering relationship which both companies hope to
develop over the next few years.

Marlboro McLaren Mercedes have a vision for the future: one
of competitiveness, excellence and focus. Individually, the
partners have achieved the highest of goals ; together they
hope to explore new frontiers.
