Description
===========

BikeGear (Bicycle Gear Designer) is a program you can use to design the
optimum gear sizes for multi-speed bicycles. Use the program to perform
"what-if" analyses to determine an optimum gear set for your bike and
riding style. The program will handle bikes equipped with one to three
chainrings and one to nine cogs on the freewheel. Shareware $10.

Version 2.0 of Bicycle Gear Designer is an upgrade of the freeware version
1.01. Version 2.0 adds Half-step gearing analysis plus several minor
cosmetic changes and is now shareware.

System Requirements
===================

BikeGear is completely self-contained and requires Windows 3.1x or Windows
95. BikeGear stores all its files in the single directory in which the
main application program is stored.Windows program group file.

Installation
============

FROM .ZIP FILE --- If you downloaded the .ZIP file, first create a new
temporary directory on your hard drive (e.g. C:\TEMP) then Unzip the
archive BIKEGR.ZIP into that directory. From the Windows 3.1x File menu or
from Windows 95 Start menu, Run C:\TEMP\SETUP.EXE. This will start the
installation process. Follow the on-screen prompts. The setup process
installs all the files necessary to run BikeGear, including a Sample data
file.

FROM FLOPPY DISK --- Insert the floppy disk into drive A:. From the
Windows 3.1x File menu or from Windows Start menu, Run A:\SETUP.EXE. This
will start the installation process. Follow the on-screen prompts. The
setup process installs all the files necessary to run BikeGear, including a
Sample data file.

BikeGear modifies your WIN.INI file. The original version of that file is
saved in a file in your Windows directory called WIN.BGR.

Since the data file structure of Version 2.0 is different than that of
Version 1.01, gear design files created with version 1.01 are not
compatible with version 2.0. Sorry about that.

Uninstall
=========

Uninstalling BikeGear is accomplished by four steps --

1. Delete all the files in the directory in which BikeGear is stored on
your hard drive and delete the directory as well.

2. Using a text editor like NOTEPAD, open the WIN.INI file and delete the
line in the [Applications] section which begins: Bicycle Gear Designer=.
If this is the only item in the section, delete the section title also.

3a. In Windows 3.1x delete the Group Icon from Program Manager.

3b. In Windows 95 open Settings from the Start menu and click on Task Bar.
Click the Start Menu Programs tab and then click the Remove button. Remove
the Biking folder from the list.

4. Restart Windows to have the changes take effect.

Operation
=========

Operating instructions are included in the on-line help system.

Shareware
=========

Bicycle Gear Designer (BikeGear) is shareware, it is not free software.
You are free to use the trial copy of the program for an evaluation period
of 30 days. If you continue using it beyond the evaluation period, you are
obliged to register the software. There are two methods by which you can
register the program, US Mail and Compuserve's software registration
service.

US Mail Registration --

To register by US mail, fill in the Order Blank (which you can print from
the Program's Help screen) and mail it and a check payable to Albert Plitt
for $10.00 US drawn against a US bank to:

	Albert Plitt
	4714 Salterforth Place
	Ellicott City, MD 21043

You will be sent by return postage the latest version of BikeGear on 3-1/2"
floppy disk and your personalized validation code number. Once you
register your copy using the validation number, the initial wait screen
will no longer appear. The validation number will be valid for all future
upgrades to the software.

Compuserve Registration --

You can register by Compuserve's shareware registration service by typing
GO SWREG at the prompt. The ID number for BikeGear is 13812. Because
Compuserve gets a cut, the cost for registering this way is $12.00 US -- I
guess shareware means everyone who can gets a share.

With either method of registration, if you include your e-mail address
(automatic with SWREG), we'll forward your validation number immediately
via return E-Mail in addition to forwarding you the floppy disk.

Please note that even if you may have paid for a diskette or CD containing
this package, you must still register BikeGear to use it past the 30 day
free trial. The fee you paid for the CD or diskette is someone else's
"share".

You are free to pass the Unregistered Version of the Bicycle Gear Designer
package to others or to upload it to bulletin boards provided 1) you do not
charge an amount greater than the cost of distribution, and 2) that all the
files comprising the original package are unaltered and included. Of
course, a registered version of the software may not be uploaded or
otherwise distributed to others.
