                                              Object Desktop Professional
                                                            Version 1.5.2
                                                           7 October 1996

                                (c) 1995-96 Stardock Systems Incpororated

    Introduction
    ------------

Stardock Systems has created a new installation utility for Object
Desktop which should greatly reduce the effort needed to deploy
Object Desktop Professional through an enterprise running OS/2 on
    numerous desktops.

To perform an unattended install of Object Desktop Professional, the
response file supplied must be modified. The response file named
OBJDESK.RSP contains component identification codes which can
control which components are installed to a workstation, where the
files are placed, and other information that controls the
    installation of Object Desktop Professional.

    Response File
    -------------

Several lines in the response file will need to be modified in order
to allow a completely unattended installation to occur.

Please make use of your favorite editor, such as the OS/2 System
Editor (E.EXE) or the OS/2 Enhanced Editor (EPM.EXE), to modify the
    OBJDESK.RSP file.

The following lines in the response file should be altered.

        1. FILE=

This parameter specifies which directory on the hard
drive Object Desktop Professional should be installed
                to.

        2. COMP=

Components to install. By default, this response file
specifies all components. Comment out any undesired
                components.

        3. OBJD_INSTALL_STARTUPFOLDER=

By default the installation specifies that the Control
Center and Tab LaunchPad are to have shadows installed
into the OS/2 Startup Folder. Specify "NO" (no quotes)
for this parameter to skip these shadows.

        4. OBJD_LICENSE=

The site license code given for your customer site must
be supplied in this parameter or the installation will
                prompt for a license number.

    Command line:
    -------------

Stardock Systems has made use of the IBM Software Installer product
to create this CID enabled installation utility. This utility fully
supports installation over a LAN or from an IBM host system (MVS, VM
or VSE). The following section describes in brief the command line
options to allow for this unattended install:

            /A:I installation
            /A:D uninstallation (removal)

            /X unattended installation

/L1:file log actions taken to file
/L2:file log all file and other operations taken
                                to file

/R:responsefile specifies name of response file
                                (required)

    Examples:
    ---------

        Case 1:

The customer wishes to install Object Desktop Professional
to workstations over a LAN. The files on the workstation
are to be installed in D:\APPS\OBJDESK, and all components
            are to be installed.

First, the response file should be modifed to specify
            D:\APPS\OBJDESK in the FILE= line.

Next, the license number must be modified to designate the
site license number given to this site.

The files are placed on a LAN drive accessible to all
workstations as J:\OBJDINST. The response file is placed in
this directory, and the command line specified for
            installation is the following:

                INSTALL /A:I /X /R:J:\OBJDINST\OBJDESK.RSP

        Case 2:

The customer wishes to install Object Desktop Professional
to workstations over a LAN. The files on the workstation
are to be installed in C:\OBJDESK, and all components except
the Object Archives are to be installed.

First, the response file should be modifed to specify
C:\OBJDESK in the FILE= line. The default is C:\OBJDESK,
            so no modification is necessary.

Next, the license number must be modified to designate the
site license number given to this site.

Finally, the customer must comment out the line that appears
            as the following:

                COMP = Object Archive (zip/lzh/zoo/arc)

by placing a '*' character in front of the configuration
            line:

                * COMP = Object Archive (zip/lzh/zoo/arc)
