Introduction:

Thank you for evaluating the Promise device driver "PTICD.SYS"
universal ATAPI IDE CDROM driver. It eliminates the need for
several CD-ROM manufacturer bundled drivers which work only for
its specific brand and/or model. This device driver is considered
Freeware during its development period and does not carry a
guarantee of its usage, fitness, or purpose.

Feedback on this driver would be helpful for improvements but is
not required. Refer to the CDROM.TXT file for a list of IDE
CD-ROM drives.

Features:

	* Universal support for ATAPI IDE CD-ROM drives
	* Supports up to FOUR ATAPI IDE CD-ROM drives which may
	  be of different brands.
	* Compatible with Microsoft MSCDEX.EXE

    | ATAPI IDE CD-ROM DEVICE DRIVER INSTALLATION |
    =======================================================

To load the Promise Universal ATAPI IDE Device driver to support
your ATAPI IDE CDROM drive(s) for use with MS-DOS, you require
the following:

	An IBM PC compatible system
	An ATAPI compatible IDE Controller
	An ATAPI standard IDE CD-ROM drive
	MS-DOS Version 3.1 or later
	Microsoft MS-DOS CD-ROM Extensions(MSCDEX.EXE)

	Note: MSCDEX.EXE must be loaded into the AUTOEXEC.BAT
	for DOS to recognize the CD-ROM drive.

To install the PTICD.SYS device driver, copy the PTICD.SYS driver
to the appropriate [drive:][path], and than add a device line in
CONFIG.SYS with the following format:

	DEVICE=[drive:][path]PTICD.SYS [/D:Device_name] [/V]

Parameters are defined as such:

	[drive:][path]
		Specifies the location (drive and directory) and
		name of the device driver file.

	/D:device_name
		Specifies the device name of the CD-ROM drive
		(8 characters maximum). This must be identical
		to the device name specified in the MSCDEX.EXE
		parameters.

	/V
		Verbose Mode - display driver status information
		during bootup.

For DOS to recoginize the CD-ROM drive as a drive letter, MSCEDEX
must be loaded into the AUTOEXEC.BAT with the following format:

	[drive:][path]MSCDEX.EXE [/D:Device_name]

Note: The MSCDEX.EXE "Device_name" label must match the label
in the PTICD.SYS device line.

See the DOS documentation for additional parameters.
